Accidentally deleted an important text message on your iPhone? It happens. Fortunately, Apple now lets you restore recently deleted messages directly within the Messages app, without needing a full iPhone backup.
Finding Your Deleted Messages
The process is straightforward. Open the Messages app, then tap Edit in the top-left corner. Select Show Recently Deleted. This reveals a list of all your deleted conversations and individual messages.
The key thing to remember is that deleted messages are only recoverable for 30 days. After that, they’re gone permanently. You’ll see a countdown next to each message or thread indicating how long you have left to restore it.
Importantly, Apple doesn’t display the content of the deleted messages in this view. You’ll need to identify them by the sender’s name or number before recovering.
Recovering Your Texts
To recover a specific message thread, simply tap on it to select it, then tap Recover in the bottom-right corner. Confirm the recovery in the pop-up window. If you want to restore all deleted messages at once, don’t select anything and tap Recover All.
Recovered messages will reappear in your inbox in chronological order. If you have a lot of recent texts, you may need to scroll to find the restored conversation.
This new feature streamlines the recovery process, making it easier than ever to retrieve accidental deletions. However, the 30-day window means quick action is crucial if you want your messages back.
